With a BFA degree from RISD, my career is professional photography, specifically architectural and location photography. That work is to show well designed buildings and places in beautiful and dramatic ways. Using technology of the camera and computer, it is making real things look ideal and nearly perfect.

What draws me to painting is its simply hand and eye production – making art. The goal is not perfection, but some humble expression of beauty.

Here in coastal New England, our natural places are compelling subjects. But my career-long connection to the built environment keeps me painting cities, usually common corners and unspectacular places, framing them as compositions of shape, color, line, and mark.

Much of my painting is en plein air, or inspired by outdoor glimpses and snapshots – studio work a welcome complement.
